With each Inside article we invite you to discover our agency via interviews with our experts.\u00a0<\/em><em>This week we interview Fran\u00e7ois LaPalme, VP Digital Strategy and Sales Manager.<\/em><br\/>Fran\u00e7ois LaPalme, a lifelong Quebecer, joined Index 3 years ago to take on the role of Vice President, Digital Strategy, and Sales Manager. He had previously worked in finance before moving into the web marketing field. Soon after they met, Jeremy, Index founder, offered Fran\u00e7ois a job helping Index clients build their digital strategies with the added challenge of integrating artificial intelligence into the process.<br\/><strong>The client must benefit from added value <\/strong><br\/>Fran\u00e7ois sees his mission as pushing the agency\u2019s strategy forward as needed. Fran\u00e7ois is in charge of developing new accounts with new clients but not solely for financial reasons. \u201cI need to make sure that the client sees working with Index as beneficial.\u201d<br\/><em>In Scorsese\u2019s \u201cThe Wolf of Wall Street\u201d, one of Jonathan Belfort&#8217;s (played by L.Di Caprio) most famous rejoinders is, \u201cIf you give people a good enough \u2018why\u2019 they will always figure out the \u2018how\u2019.\u201d<\/em><br\/><strong>The customer must be able understand the \u201cWhy\u201d right away<\/strong><br\/>In sales, Fran\u00e7ois puts the emphasis on results, on the concrete rather than on castles in the air. \u201cWhen I offer a product, it needs to be good enough that clients can immediately see its value (the \u2018why\u2019) and will find their own way to get it (the \u2018how\u2019) \u2013 by revising their budgets, convincing their superiors, and so on&#8230;\u201d<br\/><strong>Flexibility fosters growth<\/strong><br\/>\u201cI had to change my sales strategy because we offer different products from the sector I was previously in. So, I needed to change the way I was working, my procedures.\u201d Fran\u00e7ois also needs to make the agency stand out from the competition, especially because he is often the client\u2019s first contact with Index.<br\/>In addition pushing the Index sales strategy forward, Fran\u00e7ois himself has evolved since his arrival. Today, his title could be VP Marketing &#8211; AI Solution Strategist. \u201cI also need to explain the benefits and increased performance that an artificial intelligence solution can bring to a client.\u201d<br\/><strong>His own evolution has been his biggest challenge<\/strong><br\/>The biggest challenge Fran\u00e7ois has faced is his arrival at Index and all that it entailed: a complete change of ecosystem with the addition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indexwebmarketing.com\/en\/products\/c-brain\">AI<\/a>, plus the evolution of his own career. \u201cI had to learn a lot about artificial intelligence and I had to adapt very quickly in order to be convincing and to show that I truly knew the subject I was broaching with clients.\u201d<br\/><strong>Multi-faceted performance<\/strong><br\/>His job is performance oriented \u2013 in two ways. First, Fran\u00e7ois must perform successfully so that clients will return to work with Index again. The second facet of his job is to clearly demonstrate the agency\u2019s performance to clients so that \u201cthey are aware from the start what is possible and are satisfied in the end.&#8221;<br\/><strong>Interpersonal skills, positivity, emotional stability<\/strong><br\/>For Fran\u00e7ois, there are 3 essential qualities to being a good Vice President of Sales. First of all, you need good interpersonal skills. \u201cI try to understand what clients are most concerned about by talking with them and to keep things moving forward with the sale.\u201d Also, Fran\u00e7ois advises maintaining a positive attitude because \u201cit\u2019s not always easy to go through a period without sales.\u201d Finally, speaking of periods without sales, you need to have a certain emotional stability in this job.<br\/><strong>\u2013 A question from <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indexwebmarketing.com\/en\/inside-bilingual-content-manager-montreal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Judith<\/strong><\/a><strong> \u2013 What led you to specialize in marketing strategy, particularly in web marketing, after your background in finance?<\/strong><br\/>\u201cI didn\u2019t want to keep working in finance because it&#8217;s an environment that\u2019s not transparent enough for me.\u201d It is because of this experience in finance that Fran\u00e7ois broke into the web marketing field. \u201cI fell into web marketing in 2006 when it was just starting out. So, I was able to start from square one like everyone else.
