Google will increase its confidentiality

On Sunday, Google announced in a statement that the US giant will reduce access to users’ personal data following a security breach in March that had affected more than 500,000 users. Some the changes include: limited permissions for Gmail, SMS, calls as well as for third-party applications that requires users to authenticate using their Google Account and the launch of the company’s new security center.

Google+ is shutting down

Google has also announced the end of its social network after 7 years. Google acknowledged its failure with respects to this platform: the social network was so under-utilized that the costs to maintain Google+ were too high and with little to no return. The company was also pushed to closed down the platform after it was discovered that it posed a risk to user data.

Facebook launches a first-party Cookie option for Ads

The social network will launch first-party cookies on its pixel to track conversions. Currently, most cookies are ‘third-party’ and are increasingly blocked by some browsers, namely, Mozilla and Safari. Following in the footsteps of Microsoft and Google, Facebook’s cookies that will also allow to bypass this problem on different browsers.

Google gives up 10 billion US dollars

Following a change in their ethical principles, Google has waived a contract with the Pentagon worth 10 billion USD. The Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI) project with the US Department of Defense had intended to include the use of artificial intelligence for weapons. Following this withdrawal, there is a new call for bidders for the contract from the US government.

LinkedIn ready to acquire Glint

Since its purchase by Facebook in 2016, this will be the first big buy by the professional social network. This acquisition will allow LinkedIn to oversee the engagement of their employees. The solution says that it is able to anticipate a resignation of an employee thanks to an artificial intelligence.

Ads will arrive on Whatsapp in 2019

The messaging application, also purchased by Facebook, will see the arrival of advertisements in early 2019. The app’s statuses (the equivalent of stories on other social networks) is where the ads are intended to be put in place. This addition will apparently be the first step, before the generalized placement of advertisements on the application.
