Facebook Refuses to Decrypt Messages on Messenger

Reuters claims to have received information from three different sources confirming that the US government wants to have access to Messenger conversations of suspects in criminal investigations. Facebook has refused and the case will now have to be settled in federal court in California.

Instagram Comments on Mass Hacking on its Network

Many Instagram users were blocked from their accounts last week. Instagram has commented on this by recommending that users pay attention to phishing attacks and change their password for a new one unique to Instagram (not used on any other site). Lastly, Instagram also announced that a 2-factor authentication will be implemented shortly.

The Cooling of Google’s Data Centres Is Managed by Artificial Intelligence

It was on Twitter that DeepMind, the artificial intelligence solution from Google, announced that it is now in control of the cooling system for Google data centres. This is a significant first and DeepMind will directly contribute to a reduction in energy consumption, all while respecting safety requirements.

Google Is Not Planning a Return to China

While rumors of Google’s return to China were becoming more prevalent, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, said Google was “not about to launch a research product” in China. This statement puts an end to the debate over censorship and Google’s role in it. In order to be present in China, Google would have to agree to creating a censorship-friendly search engine.

Google Launches a New Form of Rich Content

Google has launched a new, expandable form of featured snippets designed to improve the results you are shown for the topic of your search. Once the new format is configured, when you search for a query that triggers it, you’ll get a few additional expandable snippets below your main featured snippet. They will include more information around your search topic such as price, product benefits, weight, and so on.
